I put this here because the younger generation would not know what I am talking about. Anyways, Does anybody know where a man could find Rim Rock Railroad items? I am talking about T-shirts, cups, flags or anything related to Rim Rock.

Wow, that is a throwback. I am part of the younger generation that has never seen it, it shut down before I was old enough to know what it was. I always ask stories but most couldn't tell me.

What exactly was it. I know it had something to do with a ghost town type feel with a scenice railroad ride of some sort. Could you give me some details on what all they did up there and why it was shut down. Does some of the buildings still exist up there? A few of my buddies would always sneak up there but I never went with them so I have never seen it first hand.

All I could find right off. I remember Rim Rock...the little rides, the Old West themed stores, and who could forget the train? I remember there was an outhouse near the track and as the train went by, the door would pop open with a wax figure of a fellow acting suprised. Then the train would stop halfway through its' trip and you could walk up to a scenic bridge. Used to be able to see that bridge from the backroad from Appy to Norton. Rim Rock was a favorite summer vacation destination, sort of like Tweetsie Railroad. Also remember going there in my early years on school field trips.

Unless I'm mistaken George Barnette still owns it if he's still alive . They had shootouts in the streets , a dancehall rides , picnicking area w/ a lake and the little train like Tweetsie to take you around the mountain top where Indians and outlaws would attack . Probably not enough outside tourism to be profitable . After all the locals had been a couple of times it lost it's draw .

OK all I heard was "lake" where is this place at. I don't remember anything about it, of course it stopped opperating when I was 1.

I would like to see what all still exist up there but I know they got it gated off and you would have to walk and it is about 2 miles up a hill.

I was up there a few years ago...granted it was dark..but there wasn't much left.

I just noticed that the locomotive that was used at Rim Rock was donated by George Barnette to Natural Tunnell in 1996. Below is the link.
